Being first to apply for jobs on UpWork isn’t the only factor that gets you the job. Sending a well-written and relevant proposal is just as important!
Back when EarlyBrd was a wee hatchling running in the cloud and sending me IT and Web Development jobs — I crafted my perfect pitch and sales method to close more sales and do more Freelance work.
Here’s the template:
Hey <name>, (Put their name if its in the proposal, if not, just say hey there)
(Open Up to the client and say hello)
I was excited when I saw your post because it fits my skillset perfectly!
(get pumped about their project, its perfect for what you do. A match made in heaven. Clients want specialists for what they do, not the generalist. If you want someone to build a deck, are you gonna hire the deck-building guy or Bob, the jack of all trades?)
My name is Birdman McGee and I am an IT consultant and former Network Engineer. I currently hold my CCNA. (briefly introduce yourself and some relevant industry certifications)
I have years of Network Engineering experience in the utilities, higher-ed and ISP industries. I now work as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at <Bird Industries> and help businesses with their IT needs and strategy in my free-time.
I’ve worked with pfSense (or whatever it is the client needs help with) and just finished a project with another UpWork client to build L2TP VPNs with AD authentication. My Linux skills are also top notch and used daily! (communicate
(I always ask clients to talk to on the phone. If you can get them on the phone, you can build rapport and close many more deals. If your skills are up to par and they talk to you before anyone else, you’re most the way there)
Do you have some time we could chat over the phone?
( I try to be open with the client about who I am and how they can contact me with a little signature)
Use EarlyBrd to learn about projects matching your skills, send a laser-targeted proposal like this and you’re well on your way to kicking some ass as a Freelancer!
